Biography

Dr. Matt Hughes has completed 13 years of post-secondary education, which includes a Bachelor of Science (B. Sc. Hon) (Minors: mathematics, chemistry, and biology), a doctorate in medicine (M.D.), and his 5 year residency in dermatology at the University of Calgary. Dr. Hughes is an accomplished athlete, as well as scholar. Before pursuing his studies, he competed at an international level in skiing, but since returning to university, he has also amassed many academic accolades, including a gold medal in his undergraduate studies. Since beginning medicine, Dr. Hughes has been an advocate for patient care and received recognition for Outstanding Patient Care from The Ottawa Hospital during his medical degree. Dr. Hughes has published articles and book chapters on a variety of topics, including allergic contact dermatitis, cutaneous lymphoma, and melanoma. During his residency, Dr. Hughes served as a committee member of the Canadian Dermatology Association Residents and Fellow Society, and is a current board member of the Canadian Dermatology Ethics Committee. Dr. Hughes is particularly interested in surgical and procedural dermatology, and he has been fortunate to train with international experts in these areas during his residency. Dr. Hughes believes in helping guide patient decisions, while respecting autonomy to ensure their medical and/or cosmetic results are what's best for them!
